About the Masjid

Masjid Darul Sunnah is a place of worship, learning and gathering for the Muslim community on Welford Road, Leicester.

Who we are

Masjid Darul Sunnah is a masjid on Welford Road in Leicester, run under Muslim Welfare House Leicester. Its doors are open for the five daily congregational prayers and for Jumu'ah, and it hosts Islamic education, youth circles and community programmes throughout the year.

The masjid sits within walking distance of WQE College and the University of Leicester, and one of the aims of the project is to serve the Muslim students studying there alongside the families of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Our mission

To keep a house of Allah open for prayer, to teach the Qur'an and the Sunnah faithfully, and to be a place where every member of the community — young and old, new and long-settled — finds somewhere to belong.

What happens here

  • Daily salah. Five daily congregational prayers are held at the masjid.
  • Jumu'ah. Weekly Friday Jumu'ah salah.
  • Weekend Madrasah. Islamic education for children and young people covering Qur'an, Arabic and Tarbiyah, delivered by Iqra Academy on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Saturday classes. Regular classes for members of the community, supporting continued Islamic learning and personal development.
  • Friday youth circles. Weekly circles giving young people the chance to learn, discuss Islamic topics and build positive relationships in the community.
  • Eid programmes. Community gatherings following Eid, for families and community members to come together and celebrate.
  • Ramadan. Nightly Tarawih prayers through Ramadan, with the Qur'an completed over the course of the month.
  • Visit My Mosque Day. An open invitation to non-Muslim neighbours to visit the masjid, share tea and snacks, and ask questions about Islam.

Visitors

Visitors are genuinely welcome, whether you are new to Islam, new to Leicester or simply passing. If it is your first time, please do introduce yourself — someone will be glad to show you round and answer your questions.

Supporting the masjid
